Quality Burgundy with low yields, selective for some

de Coninck Wine Merchant Quality Burgundy with low yields, selective for some

Rigorously reduced in volume by the spring frost.

This is a technical vintage, for meticulous winegrowers, which required “à la carte” work, all in lace. The best vintners will produce quality wines to be discovered.

Climate change has caused real damage in 2021. In fact, the month of March 2021, which gave us almost summer-like temperatures, accelerated the budburst, but snowfalls accompanied by frost at the beginning of April affected a large part of the nascent buds.

In order to counter this risk, some estates had to react quickly by installing candles in the vineyards, a technique that more or less convinced the professionals. On the other hand, the late cutting of the vines is one of the solutions that avoided losses for several winegrowers.

In addition, wet and cool weather conditions until the end of June unfortunately caused mildew, powdery mildew and botrytis to appear, resulting in the loss of a significant amount of production. This harvest was also affected by the appearance of less concentrated grapes produced by the secondary buds that came out after the main buds had fallen.

Despite all the disasters mentioned, this capricious weather did not discourage our winegrowers. Thus, several estates turned the tables and produced wines of very good quality, by studying closely the harvest and the maturation. Indeed, the small yields favored the maturity of the grapes. The whites have a very good ageing potential and the reds are of remarkable finesse. Only one negative point worries the amateurs, the exorbitant prices of certain vintages would risk turning them away from Burgundie wines.

Today we can conclude that the weather has done the right thing by making the wines taste elegant, fruity and very pleasant.
