Created in 1985, the Clos is essentially made from young vines. It is made up of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the percentage of which varies according to the quality of the vintage. It is a “pleasure wine” with medium aging (around 10 years).
The work of the vines on the plots of Clos is identical to the work carried out on the plots producing the first wine: pruning, grassing of the soil, manual leaf stripping, green harvesting, manual harvesting.
In the cellar, the same gestures punctuate the successive stages of the production of this wine whose identity is now well established and recognized. Unlike its big brother, which is aged with 50% new wood, the second wine is aged only in one-wine barrels for 10 to 12 months.
Originally, Le Clos was reserved exclusively for private customers. Trade became interested in it from the 2000 vintage. It is offered to professionals en primeur at the same time as Château La Gaffelière.
In some foreign markets, Clos Gaffelière is sold under the Dame Gaffelière label.
