Laurent Martray’s Brouilly “Les Brûlhiés” cuvée embodies the elegance and precision of an exceptional terroir located on the slopes of Mont Brouilly, within the Côte de Brouilly appellation. Planted in 1916, this historic plot boasts a unique volcanic and stony soil, which gives the Gamay a pure, structured, and distinguished expression. The harvest is entirely manual, followed by a short vatting period of 8 to 10 days, then aging in old barrels, preserving the integrity of the fruit without masking the finesse of the vintage.
“Les Brûlhiés” seduces with its complex nose of black fruits, violets, and smoky minerality, and develops a silky, fresh, and taut structure on the palate, with a long and elegant finish. This is a Brouilly full of character, made for aging, which reveals a contemporary and ambitious vision of Beaujolais, signed by one of its most demanding winemakers.
Since 1987, Laurent Martray has passionately perpetuated the expertise of four generations of winemakers in Brouilly, in the heart of Beaujolais. Representing the new wave of producers, he has established himself today as a key figure in the region, recognized for having raised the quality and reputation of Brouilly to a remarkable level. His vines, ranging in age from 50 to over 100 years old, are planted primarily on the Combiaty hillside, where his iconic Vieilles Vignes and Corentin vintages are produced, while the volcanic terroir of Mont Brouilly produces the Les Feuillées cuvée in Côte de Brouilly.
Faithful to manual and respectful viticulture, Laurent Martray harvests by hand, limits mechanical intervention, and ensures low yields to promote the pure expression of Gamay. His precise and measured vinifications include an 8- to 10-day vatting period, aging in old barrels, and unfiltered bottling.
His wines, straightforward and deep, combine the lusciousness of fruit with a beautiful mineral tension, revealing the full aging potential of Beaujolais. An elegant and sincere signature, at the crossroads of heritage and ambition.
