A sweet and rare wine, this Vin de Paille is produced by drying Poulsard, Trousseau, Chardonnay, and Savagnin grapes on racks (3 to 4 months). These grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness and hand-sorted bunch by bunch. They are then aged for 4 years in oak barrels.
More than 3 kg of dried grapes are required to produce half a bottle of Vin de Paille.
Located in the heart of the Côtes du Jura AOC, this “vineyard garden” of nearly 24 hectares in one piece enjoys an ideal south-facing exposure. Sheltered from the north winds by the château, it benefits from a terroir suited to local grape varieties: at the summit, the limestone scree slopes for Pinot Noir and Trousseau, then the marl slopes better suited to Poulsard, Chardonnay, and Savagnin.
Château d’Arlay owes its reputation to traditional vinification and long barrel aging, offering a style imbued with freshness, coupled with astonishing aging potential. This has earned it recognition as a grand cru of the Jura and the wines of France.
