A complex and refined wine, born from a difficult year marked by hail. A blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo, Garnacha, and Garnacha Blanca, grown organically on terraces between 540 and 630 m above sea level. Vinified with indigenous yeasts in open oak barrels, then aged for 14 to 16 months in 1,500 L foudres. A subtle, elegant, and vibrant wine with a silky, harmonious palate. Perfect with roast meats, stews, and vegetable stews.
“Of Basque origin, but considering himself very close to French culture, Telmo Rodriguez studied winemaking at the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology, before completing internships with Cos d’Estournel, Jean Louis Chave, and Trevallon. He also worked on the vinification of the family wines at Remelluri, in Rioja. Then, in 1990, with an investment of just a few thousand euros, he launched his own winery. He purchased grapes to produce his first wines. His first plots of land wouldn’t arrive until 1997, in Rioja. A paradox for someone who was eager to explore new regions.
One of Telmo Rodriguez’s main principles is respect for the Spanish tradition of cultivating vines in goblet form, as this method of training the vines protects them from the intense heat of Iberian vineyards. He is fiercely opposed to the trend of training vineyards and only buys vines who respect his ideal. Telmo also works biodynamically, but, showing great common sense, he admits that he only does it out of respect for the land and that the mention of organic viticulture has no importance in his eyes. The important thing is that the result is a balanced and tasty wine.”
