In 1991, Patrick de Coninck and Albert Michiels acquired Château Martet.
This estate, ideally located on a hillside along the Dordogne River, boasts an exceptional heritage with a connection to the vine and its people dating back to the Roman era.
The soils are composed of 18 hectares of clay-limestone and 7 hectares, corresponding to the highest part, of clay-gravel.
Château Martet was built in the 13th century as a hospital house of the Knights Templar for pilgrims on the Way of St. James. Patrick and Albert immediately embarked on the ambitious project of restoring the vineyard and the property to their former glory.
Since 1998, Patrick de Coninck has entrusted Louis Mitjavile with his advice on both viticulture and oenology. Today, his daughter Nina continues her father’s leadership and advises Martet. Over the years, their work has established Château Martet as a must-see vineyard: five great wines, a welcoming estate, and preserved biodiversity are the hallmarks of this rich and passionate history.
