This is the estate’s largest regional sale, a true local institution. A specialty of the Estate, obtained by maceration—and not by bleeding—of the 5 red and white grape varieties of the Jura (Pinot Noir, Trousseau, Poulsard, Chardonnay, Savagnin), followed by aging for 2 years in barrels. This blend is intended to reflect the wines of yesteryear, made from grapes mixed in the vineyard. To our knowledge, it is the only one still practiced in the Jura.
The Château d’Arlay is a historic wine estate located in Arlay, in the Jura region, in the heart of the Côtes du Jura wine region. This 17th-century château is one of the oldest wine estates still in operation in France. It is currently run by the d’Arenberg family, a Belgian noble lineage, who acquired the estate in the 19th century.
The château was built in 1774 on the foundations of a former monastery. It is surrounded by an 8-hectare park, laid out in the late 18th century by the Countess of Lauraguais. The château’s architecture reflects the classical style of the period, with symmetrical facades and richly decorated interiors.
The Château d’Arlay vineyard covers approximately 20 hectares and is cultivated using traditional methods. The main grape varieties are Savagnin, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Poulsard. The estate is renowned for its white wines, notably Vin Jaune, a unique wine aged under veil, as well as for its light and fruity red wines.
