The Léoville Poyferré 2021 – Saint-Julien is a red wine from the prestigious Château Léoville Poyferré, located in the Saint-Julien appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux.
The 2021 vintage reveals a precise and elegant profile. The nose opens with aromas of fresh black fruits, accompanied by floral and lightly spicy notes. On the palate, the balance is perfect, with a beautiful structure, fine tannins, and a fresh thread that brings great liveliness. The finish is clean and persistent, with a delicately integrated touch of oak.
This is a wine that emphasizes finesse and tension rather than power, true to the style of the estate in this vintage. It pairs perfectly with grilled meats, a rack of lamb, or a duck breast.
Best enjoyed now after decanting, or cellared for a few years to gain further complexity.
The vineyard today covers approximately 80 hectares, divided into several parcels on deep gravel soils typical of the Médoc, along the Gironde river. These well-draining soils are essential for producing structured, precise wines that are built to age.
The vineyard is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, allowing the production of wines that are both powerful and balanced.
The origins of the estate date back to 1638, when it was part of the vast Léoville domain, one of the most important in the Médoc.
It took its current form in 1840 and was classified as a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, a classification it still holds today.
Since 1920, the estate has been owned by the Cuvelier family, who modernized the property and strengthened its position among Bordeaux’s great wines.
The estate follows a precise and technical approach:
The aim is clear: to highlight the purity of the fruit and the precision of the terroir, rather than to demonstrate sheer power.
For several years, the château has also been committed to an environmental approach, certified High Environmental Value (HVE level 3).
