Presentation
The Château Mouton Rothschild 2020 is a work of oenological art, a symbol of power and elegance. Made from a prestigious blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, it perfectly reflects the sunny and harmonious character of the vintage. The vines, planted on the famous gravelly plateau of Pauillac, have produced a wine of exceptional depth. Mouton Rothschild has produced a vintage of absolute balance, where the richness of the fruit meets the freshness and purity of the terroir. A true icon, this vintage combines intensity, complexity, and longevity.
Tasting
The color is black and brilliant, almost impenetrable. The nose, captivatingly complex, exudes aromas of ripe blackcurrant, violet, cedar, blond tobacco, and graphite, with a subtle hint of spice and smoke. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied, velvety, and structured, supported by remarkably fine tannins. The fruit is vibrant and pure, and the finish lingers with a long, mineral freshness that perfectly balances the wine’s power. This 2020 combines intensity and refinement, already offering immense pleasure while promising several decades of aging potential.
The grand vin of Château Mouton-Rothschild comes from the finest vines planted on the “Plateau de Mouton,” part of the estate’s 90 hectares. Their root systems are well-suited to anchoring themselves in particularly deep gravelly soils. As is the case with Pauillac, Cabernet Sauvignon largely dominates the blend. It can account for up to 80% depending on the vintage, complemented by Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The harvest is carried out by hand.
The wine is aged for approximately twenty months in the purest Médoc tradition, entirely in new barrels, with topping up and fining with egg white to stabilize the wine by precipitating the remaining solid particles to the bottom of the barrel.
Most vintages offer opulence, richness, and depth, enhanced by a remarkable aromatic complexity ranging from blackcurrant to roasted coffee, mint, and fine leather.
Château Mouton-Rothschild’s unique feature is that it collaborates with an artist each year to design a unique wine label. You can find labels created by Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Dali, Francis Bacon, and even Prince Charles of England!
