Presentation
The 2020 vintage from the iconic estate of the Pessac-Léognan appellation seduces with its elegant structure and remarkable completion. Produced from a prestigious blend—predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (≈50%) and Merlot (≈47%)—the wine is aged on fine lees with 65% new oak, revealing a terroir of dry, clayey gravel on a limestone subsoil. It stands out as a great wine that combines power and freshness, intended for lovers of great Bordeaux.
Tasting
The deep, almost purple color announces a beautiful density. On the nose, blackberry and blackcurrant emerge, followed by touches of tobacco, incense, licorice, and warm stone. On the palate, the texture is velvety, the tannins precise and ripe, supported by an acidic structure that brings liveliness and elegance. The fruit is dense, the finish long and saline—a rare balance between strength and finesse.
An emotional wine, to be enjoyed now after decanting, but also to be cellared for a few years.
Château Malartic-Lagravière is a Graves Cru Classé located in Léognan (Pessac-Léognan), owned by the Bonnie family since 1997.
The estate covers approximately 73 hectares: 66 hectares for red wines, 7 hectares for white wines.
The vineyard is planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties: for the red, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot; for the white, Sauvignon Blanc is predominantly accompanied by Sémillon.
The soils are typical of the Graves de Léognan region: dry, clayey gravel, with a shell-like limestone subsoil and clay veins, which ensures excellent drainage and a remarkable underlying minerality.
The estate practices sustainable viticulture, with manual harvesting, plot sorting, and environmental certifications (HVE, ISO 14001) to preserve the freshness and character of the terroir, and guarantee consistent quality.
A classic among the great Bordeaux wines!
