Overview
The Comte de Malartic 2021 is the second wine from the prestigious Château Malartic-Lagravière, a Grand Cru Classé of Graves. Made from a blend dominated by Merlot, this wine reflects the estate’s expertise while offering a more accessible approach. Grown on the characteristic gravelly soils of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, it benefits from careful vinification and barrel aging, including a significant proportion of new oak, to refine its structure and complexity.
Tasting
The Comte de Malartic 2021 is a deep ruby red in color, heralding beautiful intensity. The nose is expressive, revealing aromas of fresh red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, accompanied by floral notes of violet and spicy touches of pepper and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is supple and elegant, with a fine tannic structure and beautiful freshness. The fruity flavors blend harmoniously with nuances of licorice and cocoa, offering a lingering and balanced finish.
Château Malartic-Lagravière is a Graves Cru Classé located in Léognan (Pessac-Léognan), owned by the Bonnie family since 1997.
The estate covers approximately 73 hectares: 66 hectares for red wines, 7 hectares for white wines.
The vineyard is planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties: for the red, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot; for the white, Sauvignon Blanc is predominantly accompanied by Sémillon.
The soils are typical of the Graves de Léognan region: dry, clayey gravel, with a shell-like limestone subsoil and clay veins, which ensures excellent drainage and a remarkable underlying minerality.
The estate practices sustainable viticulture, with manual harvesting, plot sorting, and environmental certifications (HVE, ISO 14001) to preserve the freshness and character of the terroir, and guarantee consistent quality.
