One of Bordeaux’s greatest wines!
Le Pin is an ode to refined balance: 100% Merlot, harvested between September 25th and October 4th, with partial maturation in new barrels (≈65-75%) to provide structure while allowing the fruit to breathe.
On the nose, we perceive deep aromas of ripe black fruits (plum, blackberry, black cherry) blended with floral notes (violet, rose), delicate spices, a hint of leather and truffle, and a slightly mineral note that adds depth.
On the palate, the wine is supple yet dense: the tannins are fine and velvety, the texture is silky, and the well-balanced acidity offers a welcome freshness.
The finish lingers long, with fruit, spices, and a lovely salinity, promising excellent aging potential.
Located in Pomerol, on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Le Pin is one of the most prestigious and secretive estates in the world.
Founded in the early 1980s by the Thienpont family, this small vineyard of barely 2 hectares owes its name to a solitary pine tree that dominates the property.
Planted almost exclusively with Merlot, the gravel and clay terroir gives the wines exceptional opulence, combining aromatic richness, smoothness, and intensity.
This exceptional terroir is based on sandy gravel soil on a deep clay bed, with the famous “crasse de fer” (iron clay) in the subsoil. This unique blend provides optimal drainage, excellent water reserves, and strong rooting.
Le Pin is produced in very low yields (≈35 hl/ha in 2021) and the vinification is carried out with great care: hand-picking, extended aging, and extensive use of new barrels.
This rigor, combined with the estate’s history and its geographical location in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, neighboring Vieux Château Certan, makes Le Pin a legendary wine, sought after for its purity, elegance, and harmony.
Produced in very limited quantities, Château Le Pin has become an icon of Pomerol and a legendary wine, sought after by wine lovers and collectors around the world.
