The 2021 Clos56 presents a deep, clear purple color, immediately announcing its beautiful density.
On the nose, it unfolds an intense bouquet of ripe black fruits—blackberry, blackcurrant—accompanied by notes of black cherry, sweet spices, violet, and discreet notes of roasted or toasted cocoa.
On the palate, the texture is velvety, the tannins are precise, refined, yet fleshy enough to give body; the positively present acidity brings freshness, balancing this rich wine.
The finish is long, elegant, and expressive, with persistent fruit and spices, promising several years of serene aging potential.
A confidential micro-cuvée, rare and full of character.
Clos 56 is an exceptional plot of only 56 ares (0.56 hectares), owned by the Bouyer family, winegrowers of long-standing Bordeaux heritage.
The very old vineyard (some vines are over 80 years old) is planted exclusively with Merlot, on a terroir typical of the Pomerol plateau: light sand, shallow gravel, and deeper gravel overlain by clay.
Planting density is high (≈6,000 vines/ha), and yields are moderate (30-35 hl/ha) to promote concentration and finesse.
The harvest is manual, followed by rigorous sorting, careful soil cultivation, traditional pruning, and aging for 12-15 months in barrels, approximately half of which are new.
