The 2021 Petit de Petit Village is distinguished by its beautiful harmony: a nose blending ripe black fruits, violets, and fine spices, complemented by a hint of oak that is still perceptible but very well integrated.
On the palate, it displays a velvety texture, soft but well-supported tannins, a mouth-watering freshness, and a beautiful length. The careful aging, the plot selection, and the distinct terroir give the wine both deliciousness and structure. It’s accessible now but promises excellent aging potential.
From the first nose, the prestigious terroir is elegantly revealed.
Domaine du Petit Village is a jewel of Pomerol, renowned for its exceptional wines from a unique terroir and meticulous, modern management. Thanks to its clay-gravel soils, the estate produces powerful red wines, primarily made from Merlot, that combine elegance, richness, and complexity.
The estate covers 10.5 hectares, all in one piece, in a triangular shape, located at the top of the Pomerol plateau. The terroir is exceptional: deep reddish gravel mixed with quartz and flint, coated with fine, sandy clay over a clayey subsoil (iron dross), which provides drainage, freshness, and a high capacity for aromatic concentration.
Historically, the estate dates back to a former “small village” whose name is said to have been derived from the shape of the buildings. After passing through the hands of the Ginestet family and then the AXA Millésimes group, it was acquired in 2020 by the Moulin family, already owners of Château Beauregard, with the ambition of raising Petit-Village to the status of the leading wineries on the plateau. Under the direction of Vincent Priou and Augustin Belloy, the estate has made significant investments (restructured vineyards, renovated cellars) to fully express the richness of its terroir. The grape varieties are made up of approximately 75% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, each variety being planted on plots best suited to the soil characteristics.
