The jewel of Alvaro Palacios’ wines and a benchmark among quality wines. A wine made from Grenache vines over 60 years old and low-yielding Cabernets. A wine with great strength and elegance, fine and deep aromas and the splendor of fully ripe fruit.
“L’Ermita” is not just a wine; it’s a living legend of the Priorat region, a masterpiece by Álvaro Palacios, one of Spain’s most influential winemakers. This estate embodies the very essence of the region: steep slopes, black slate soils called llicorella, and an unwavering passion for excellence.
Located in Gratallops, in the heart of the Priorat region, the L’Ermita vineyard is a small 2-hectare gem planted with 75- to 100-year-old vines, primarily Garnacha (Grenache), with a touch of Cariñena (Carignan) and a few white varieties such as Macabeu and Pedro Ximénez. These vines, cultivated on terraces, are worked by hand, often with the help of horses and mules, with total respect for the terroir.
The vinification is equally meticulous: partial destemming, fermentation in wooden vats, manual punching down, then aging in French oak barrels for 18 months. The result? A wine of rare depth and complexity, with aromas of black fruits, spices, minerality, and an elegant tannic structure.
Each vintage of L’Ermita is a work of art, a pure expression of Priorat, a collector’s wine, both powerful and refined, capable of aging magnificently for several decades.
