“A pure Merlot aged for 18 months in new barrels and presented in a numbered bottle. The wine lives up to all its promises, built around an intense black fruit, between blackcurrant and blackberry, but also some touches of violet and raspberry. The palate is powerful, dense, underlined by well-melted tannins and a lot of freshness. A wine for laying down, obviously, tannic without excess, with a finish of very good persistence.” Hachette Guide 2023. Powerful and round at the same time, on red fruits and leather, this wine provides a sensual smoothness with great suppleness on the palate. The marriage between the anthology vintage and Nina Mitjavile make this Château Martet “Réserve de Famille” a high-end wine suitable for long laying down. Our advice: enjoy it with duck but also goose, red meats and dishes with mushrooms, it will bring you nothing but pleasure!

In 1991, Patrick de Coninck and Albert Michiels acquired Château Martet. This estate, ideally located on a hillside along the Dordogne, offers an exceptional heritage with a relationship to the vine and to people dating back to the Roman era. Château Martet was built in the 13th century: a hospitable house of the Order of the Templars for the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela. Immediately, Patrick and Albert had the ambitious project of restoring the vineyard and the property to their former glory. From 1993 to 2006, a restructuring of the vineyard was undertaken: uprooting of grape varieties unsuited to the soil and uprooting of wide vines to favor tall vines with low density. From 1998 Patrick de Coninck trusted Louis Mitjavile, to advise him both in viticulture and oenology, today it is still his daughter Nina who has taken up her father’s torch to advise Martet. Over the years, their work has placed Château Martet at the forefront of the vineyard: five great wines, a welcoming property and preserved biodiversity which have made this rich and passionate history famous.
