Domaine de Montcalmès is a 22-hectare family estate in the Languedoc wine region, renowned for producing certified organic wines. Among their creations is the Terrasses du Larzac wine, produced in only a limited number of bottles each year. Given this limited quantity and the success of this wine, it is necessary to reserve in advance to ensure availability.
Montcalmès means limestone mountain in Occitan. Created in 1999 from family vines brought to the cooperative, the estate now covers 25 hectares of organic vineyards on Peuchabon’s lacustrine limestone, Aniane’s rolled pebbles, Saint-Saturin’s limestone scree and the clay-limestone of Saint-Jean-de-Fos. Drawing on his experience at La Grange des Pères, with Olivier Julien and Alain Graillot, Frédéric Pourtalié vinifies his Grenache, Syrah and Carignan terroir by terroir before blending. The range of reds is narrower, with the cuvée en terrasses-de-Larzac boasting ultra-fine tannins, a wine at the very top of the Languedoc elite, a wine of dreams. A white wine is also available in smaller quantities.
