Property of the Bouygues family since 2006, this 2nd Cru Classé is one of the most prestigious domains of Saint-Estèphe, sought after for its flawless regularity. And to think that Montrose was once just a vast field of heather, cleared in 1780 by Théodore Dumoulin who believed in the extraordinary viticultural potential of this terroir…
Today on this magnificent gravelly hilltop, the 95-hectare vineyard in one piece is made up of 65% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. It enjoys an exceptional microclimate: located on the banks of the Garonne, the vines benefit from the thermoregulatory properties of the river but also from the benefits of the wind which ensures a good sanitary condition of the grapes. The vinifications are monitored by the oenologist Eric Boissenot. Montrose produces a high-class wine, racy in its aromatic expression, offering a tight and silky tannic structure. It knows how to retain a magnificent freshness even in very hot vintages, which partly explains its impressive aging potential.
