Mission Haut-Brion 2021 – Pessac-Léognan
The Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2021 is one of the great wines of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, produced at a historic estate located next to Château Haut-Brion on Bordeaux’s Left Bank.
The vineyard is rooted in an exceptional terroir of deep gravel mixed with gravelly clay subsoils, providing ideal drainage and natural vine regulation. This terroir gives the wines great depth, noble structure, and a strong identity.
The 2021 vintage, more classical and fresher than recent warm and solar years, produced wines defined by balance and precision. The blend is typically dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Cabernet Franc, resulting in a structured, dense, and harmonious wine.
Ageing in French oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new oak, adds complexity, spicy notes, and a tight yet refined texture.
On the nose, aromas of fresh black fruits, cherry, cedar, smoke, and graphite emerge. On the palate, the attack is straight and precise, with fine but firm tannins, great tension, and long aromatic persistence.
This is a great ageing wine from Pessac-Léognan, combining elegance, depth, and energy, with remarkable development potential over several decades.
