Originating from the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux’s Médoc, Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is the second wine of the prestigious Château Léoville Las Cases, one of the most iconic estates in Bordeaux and classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855.
The Léoville Las Cases estate belongs to the renowned Domaine du Grand Enclos, located directly on the border of the Pauillac appellation, close to Château Latour. It benefits from an exceptional terroir of deep Garonne gravel soils, which gives the wines remarkable structure, precision, and ageing potential.
The 2019 vintage is considered an outstanding year in Bordeaux, marked by highly favourable weather conditions, resulting in optimal grape ripeness and excellent aromatic concentration.
The vineyard is mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, allowing for a balance of power, finesse, and complexity.
The nose reveals aromas of ripe black fruits, cassis, black cherry, and blackberry, alongside notes of cedar, gentle spices, and subtle oak nuances.
On the palate, Le Petit Lion 2019 stands out for its elegant structure, fine tannins, and impressive depth. The overall profile is harmonious, precise, and supported by the fresh backbone typical of great Saint-Julien wines.
Already appealing in its youth, this second wine also offers strong ageing potential and faithfully reflects the refined, disciplined style of its distinguished estate.
Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the most prestigious estates in the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of the Médoc in Bordeaux. Classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it is widely regarded as one of the greatest wines in the Bordeaux classification system, with a stature often comparable to First Growths.
The estate is centered around the renowned Grand Enclos of Léoville Las Cases, an exceptional vineyard located directly on the border of the Pauillac appellation, adjacent to Château Latour. This close proximity partly explains the wine’s remarkable power and noble structure.
The vineyard covers approximately 60 to 80 hectares, depending on classified parcels, and is planted on deep Garonne gravel soils over a subsoil of sand and clay. This exceptional terroir produces wines of great precision, combining power, finesse, and outstanding ageing potential.
The vineyard is predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. This composition allows for highly structured, linear, and complex wines.
The estate’s philosophy is based on extremely demanding viticulture, with strict parcel selection and low yields. Winemaking is precise and minimally interventionist, aiming to preserve the pure identity of the terroir.
The wines of Léoville Las Cases are known for their depth, aromatic intensity, and powerful tannic structure, while maintaining elegance and exceptional ageing capacity.
