A benchmark estate of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, Château Phélan Ségur ranks among the most renowned properties of the Médoc. Although not included in the 1855 Classification, this exceptional Cru Bourgeois regularly rivals many Classified Growths thanks to the consistent quality of its wines and the excellence of its terroir.
Situated on elevated land overlooking the Gironde Estuary, the vineyard benefits from a privileged location and terroirs composed mainly of Garonne gravel soils resting on clay-limestone subsoils. This diversity of soils contributes to the production of wines that are both powerful, balanced, and elegant.
The 2022 vintage perfectly illustrates the outstanding success of the year in Saint-Estèphe. The nose reveals an intense aromatic palette of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, and plum, enriched by notes of violet, graphite, cedar, and delicate spices. On the palate, the wine impresses with its density, breadth, and the finesse of its perfectly ripe tannins. The long and harmonious finish displays remarkable freshness, perfectly balancing the richness of the fruit.
Both concentrated and refined, with outstanding ageing potential, Château Phélan Ségur 2022 confirms its status as one of the leading references of Saint-Estèphe and the Médoc.

Château Phélan Ségur is one of the most emblematic estates of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Located on the banks of the Gironde Estuary, the estate enjoys an exceptional setting that has contributed for nearly two centuries to the production of some of the most renowned wines of the Médoc.
The history of the château began in the early 19th century when the Irish entrepreneur Bernard Phélan acquired several wine-growing properties and gradually merged them to create the estate as it exists today. His son, Frank Phélan, continued the development of the property, whose name still combines that of the Phélan family with the historic lieu-dit Ségur.
The vineyard extends over approximately 70 hectares spread across several gravelly rises overlooking the estuary. The proximity of the Gironde plays a vital role in temperature regulation and promotes optimal grape ripening. The deep gravel soils combined with clay-rich subsoils create a terroir particularly well suited to the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Over the years, significant investments have been made to modernize the winemaking facilities while preserving the historical identity of the estate. Rigorous parcel selection, controlled yields, and precise vinification techniques contribute to the production of wines renowned for their balance, depth, and elegance.
Known for a style that combines power, finesse, and freshness, Château Phélan Ségur produces wines capable of evolving harmoniously over several decades. Each vintage reflects the excellence of an estate where tradition, innovation, and respect for the terroir come together to express the full nobility of Saint-Estèphe.
