On the nose, L’If seduces with its aromatic intensity: ripe black fruits (blackberry, plum), licorice, and gingerbread, with a pronounced limestone freshness that adds clarity.
On the palate, it combines power and elegance: firm yet well-integrated tannins, a velvety and rich texture, deep fruit, and a long finish enhanced by a mouth-watering minerality.
Typical of Saint-Émilion but matured in a grand style, this wine expresses the great limestone terroir of the plateau, where the freshness of the Cabernet Franc balances the roundness of the Merlot.
Intended for lovers of structured, distinguished red wines with ageing potential.
A typical combination of intensity, freshness, and structure.
Perched on the prestigious limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, Château L’IF has quickly become a jewel among the Right Bank estates.
Acquired in 2010 by Jacques Thienpont, owner of the illustrious Le Pin in Pomerol, it covers approximately 8 hectares, planted with ~75-80% Merlot and an elegant complement of Cabernet Franc.
Currently managed by Cyrille Thienpont, the estate enjoys exceptional exposure: facing the village of Saint-Émilion, right next to big names like Troplong-Mondot.
Each plot at L’IF is treated with the greatest care—rigorous selection, meticulous vinification, and long aging in French barrels (including a significant proportion of new oak)—with the aim of producing wines of rare finesse, combining intensity, chalky freshness, and harmonious structure.
The estate thus establishes itself as one of the finest modern examples of Bordeaux expertise.
L’If has now entered the circle of the Right Bank’s “greats.”
