The typicality of a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion
The property
Located at the southern entrance to the village of Saint-Émilion, Château La Gaffelière, Premier Grand Cru Classé B of Saint-Émilion bears witness to very ancient origins. Mosaics discovered during excavations have attested to the presence of vines on the estate since Gallo-Roman times. Property of the Malet Roquefort family for more than three centuries and located in the “golden triangle” between the hills of the Pavie and Ausone castles, Château La Gaffelière embodies the excellence of the great red wines of Saint-Émilion.
Wine
Second wine of the property, the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Clos La Gaffelière was born in 1985. Clos La Gaffelière benefits from the same care in the monitoring of the vines and the production as the Grand Vin of the property. Clos La Gaffelière is essentially made from the young vines of the property. A real wine for pleasure, this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru can be enjoyed in its youth while having the necessary structure to withstand an average aging of around 10 years.
The vineyard
The Château La Gaffelière vineyard covers 38 hectares, 22 of which are 1st Grands Crus Classés. This vineyard is located in 3 different areas. We thus find the famous limestone plateau with starfish, the outcrops of clayey Molasses of the Fronsadais or the deep carbonated sands. The vineyard of Château La Gaffelière is managed in sustainable agriculture, favoring the most gentle methods of intervention.
The vintage
The mild winter allowed an early bud burst at the end of March. Flowering took place in good conditions and the month of July was very hot. A storm avoided too much water stress, which allowed the vines to resist throughout the summer and deliver grapes at the perfect maturity for the harvest.
