The family house ‘Joseph Drouhin’ was founded in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, then aged 22, from the Chablis region. In 1918, his son Maurice succeeded him and expanded the house with plots in prestigious vineyards such as ‘Clos de Vougeot’ and ‘Clos des Mouches’. Still later, it is in turn his son Robert who also ensures a lot of expansion and even buys a domain in Chablis. Today it is his children, the fourth generation, who are at the helm. The three brothers and one sister each have their specific tasks and work hard every day to ensure that the house’s high reputation is maintained. They complement each other flawlessly and all four strive day in and day out for perfection in everything they do. They also always keep questioning everything and looking for different and better ways of doing certain things. It is the sister, Véronique, who, as a qualified oenologist, makes the wines. She works completely organically (and even more and more biodynamically) and with a lot of respect for nature. Her aim is to make wines that are perfectly balanced and harmonious, fine, elegant yet full of character. With its 73 hectares of vineyards spread over 90 appellations, Drouhin has a very wide variety of soil compositions and layouts, and it is this diversity that is so typical of this wonderful region and which a skilled winemaker like Véronique can do wonderful things with.
