This superb 2nd Cru Classé de Saint-Julien boasts impressive consistency of quality, much appreciated by wine lovers. Acquired in 1826 by the Barton family, originally from Ireland, the estate is still owned and run by Lilian Barton-Sartorius. Château Leoville Barton’s 51 hectares of vines, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon (74%), are situated on a magnificent terroir of gravel over clay. The tides of the nearby Gironde ensure moderate temperatures in both winter and summer.
Given the age of the vineyard, the grapes are remarkably ripe and concentrated. Vinification is overseen by Eric Boissenot, consultant oenologist to some of the Médoc’s finest wines. Supple, velvety and very elegant, Léoville Barton wines offer seductive blackcurrant and cherry fruit, with a hint of spice.
