CHÂTEAU CALON SÉGUR 2025 – Saint-Estèphe : 97-99 Pts
Château Calon Ségur is one of the most emblematic estates of the Saint-Estèphe appellation and one of the great names of the Médoc. Classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) in 1855, it is renowned for producing wines that combine power, depth, and elegance, with remarkable ageing potential.
The vineyard is planted on an exceptional terroir of deep gravel soils resting on a clay-limestone subsoil, providing excellent drainage and a steady water supply. This combination promotes slow and even ripening of the grapes, which is essential for crafting complex and well-balanced wines.
The 2025 vintage stands out for its precision and aromatic intensity. The nose reveals aromas of cassis, blackberry, and black cherry, complemented by notes of cedar, graphite, violet, and delicate spices.
On the palate, the attack is ample and refined. The wine is dense, deep, and perfectly structured, supported by remarkably fine tannins and outstanding freshness. The balance between power, elegance, and tension gives the wine great nobility.
The finish is long, complex, and persistent, marked by notes of dark fruits, liquorice, and a subtle minerality characteristic of the Saint-Estèphe terroir.
Calon Ségur 2025 perfectly illustrates the style of the estate: a distinguished, deep, and harmonious wine with exceptional ageing potential, destined to evolve beautifully over the coming decades.
The Estate – Château Calon Ségur
Château Calon Ségur is one of the most prestigious historic estates in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) in the 1855 Classification, it occupies a unique position within the Médoc thanks to its strong identity, elegance, and remarkable consistency in quality.
The vineyard covers approximately 55 hectares in a single contiguous block, a rare feature in the Médoc. It is planted on an exceptional terroir of deep gravel soils combined with a clay-limestone subsoil, providing ideal conditions for viticulture and the production of wines with outstanding ageing potential.
The vineyard is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. This diversity allows the estate to craft wines that combine power, freshness, aromatic complexity, and balance.
Winemaking is carried out with great precision in order to preserve the expression of the terroir and the purity of the fruit. Ageing in oak barrels brings structure, finesse, and depth while fully respecting the identity of the wine.
Recognisable by the iconic heart featured on its label, Château Calon Ségur is today considered one of the leading references of Saint-Estèphe, producing elegant, profound wines built for long-term ageing.
