Château Carbonnieux Rouge 2025 – Pessac-Léognan : 95-96
The Château Carbonnieux 2025 red is a wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. It is classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves and is known for the consistency of both its red and white wines.
The estate is located on deep gravel soils mixed with clay-limestone subsoils, providing excellent drainage and good water regulation for the vines. These terroirs produce balanced wines that are both structured and elegant.
The 2025 vintage benefits from favourable conditions, with even grape ripening and strong aromatic expression. The blend is typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and occasionally a small proportion of Petit Verdot.
Ageing in French oak barrels adds complexity and fine structure while respecting the expression of the fruit and the freshness of the terroir.
On the nose, aromas of black fruits, cherry, and blackcurrant emerge, along with notes of cedar, spice, and a subtle toasty touch. On the palate, the attack is supple and precise, with balanced structure, fine tannins, and an elegant, persistent finish.
This is a refined Pessac-Léognan, combining freshness, finesse, and interesting ageing potential.
Château Carbonnieux – Estate
The Château Carbonnieux is a wine estate located in Léognan, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves for both red and white wines, it is one of the most historic and highly regarded estates in the region.
The vineyard covers around 100 hectares, planted on deep gravel soils mixed with clay-limestone subsoils. This diversity of terroirs allows the production of wines that are precise, balanced, and marked by fine freshness.
The estate is mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the red wines, complemented by Cabernet Franc and sometimes a small proportion of Petit Verdot. This range of grape varieties brings structure, elegance, and complexity.
For white wines, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon play an important role, highlighting the estate’s versatility.
Viticulture is carried out with precision, focusing on parcel-by-parcel management and careful control of ripeness. Winemaking is adapted to each lot to preserve the expression of the terroir.
Ageing in French oak barrels is carefully managed to add complexity and finesse without overpowering the fruit.
Today, Château Carbonnieux is considered a consistent and reliable Grand Cru Classé of Pessac-Léognan, producing harmonious, elegant wines with strong ageing potential.
