Clos La Gaffelière 2025 – Saint-Émilion Grand Cru : 94
The Clos La Gaffelière 2025 is a red wine from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. It is the second wine of Château La Gaffelière, classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé (B), offering a more accessible and fruit-forward interpretation of the estate.
The vineyard comes from the youngest or most supple parcels of the estate, located on the typical clay-limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion. These soils provide a good balance between ripeness, freshness, and aromatic finesse.
The 2025 vintage is marked by a consistent and even ripening, allowing for a generous fruit expression while retaining the elegant signature of the terroir. The blend is dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, which adds structure and freshness.
Winemaking is carried out with care, in a softer style than the grand vin, focusing on fruit purity, roundness, and accessibility. Ageing in French oak barrels is moderate so as not to overpower the aromatic expression.
On the nose, the wine reveals aromas of red and black fruits, cherry, and plum, with floral and lightly spicy notes. On the palate, the attack is smooth, the texture rounded, and the tannins fine, leading to a fruity and harmonious finish.
This is an immediately enjoyable Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, true to the style of the château but in a more generous and approachable expression.
Clos La Gaffelière – Estate
The Clos La Gaffelière is the second wine of the Château La Gaffelière estate, located in Saint-Émilion, on the right bank of Bordeaux, in the heart of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation.
It is produced by the Malet Roquefort family, owners of the château, who ensure stylistic continuity between the grand vin and this second wine, while favouring a more accessible and fruit-driven approach.
Clos La Gaffelière is mainly sourced from younger vines or less strictly selected parcels from the main vineyard, located on the clay-limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion. These terroirs allow for a supple and generous expression of Merlot, while retaining the finesse typical of the estate.
The vineyard is planted mainly with Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, but with a selection focused on grapes that deliver more immediate fruit and softer structure.
Winemaking is adapted to prioritise aromatic expression, roundness, and approachability, with gentler extraction than for the grand vin. Ageing in oak barrels is also more moderate.
Today, Clos La Gaffelière is recognised as an elegant and representative second wine of the estate, offering a more immediate expression of the Saint-Émilion style.
