The Pian delle Vigne Brunello 2008/2009 – Enoteca Antinori in 3-liter format is a cuvée representative of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, one of the most prestigious expressions of Sangiovese in Tuscany. Produced under the guidance of the Antinori family, this wine highlights the classic and structured style of Brunello, with strong ageing potential.
The Pian delle Vigne estate, located southwest of Montalcino, extends over well-exposed hills in a Mediterranean climate tempered by altitude. These conditions allow a slow and complete ripening of Sangiovese Grosso, the only permitted grape variety in the appellation.
The soils are mainly composed of pebbles, clay, and calcareous sediments, providing structure, depth, and freshness to the wines. This geological diversity contributes to the balance between power, tension, and elegance that characterises great Brunello.
The 2008 and 2009 vintages offer two complementary expressions of the estate’s style:
On the palate, the wines show a solid structure, with tannins still present but well integrated, and a flavour profile of black cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, and gentle spices. The overall impression remains harmonious, with the depth typical of Brunello.
The 3-liter format enhances ageing potential and allows for a slower, more complex evolution, ideal for long-term cellaring.
These Brunello wines are built for ageing and can develop gracefully over several decades, gaining increasing complexity and aromatic finesse.
The Pian delle Vigne estate, owned by the Antinori family, is located southwest of Montalcino in Tuscany. It is considered one of the reference estates for the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, one of the most prestigious expressions of the Sangiovese Grosso grape.
The estate extends over well-exposed hills in an area with a typically Mediterranean climate, moderated by altitude. This combination allows for a slow and even ripening of the grapes, promoting a balance between power, freshness, and elegance.
The soils are composed of a mix of pebbles, clay, and limestone formations, providing structure, depth, and complexity to the wines. This geological diversity helps produce Brunello wines that are both powerful and harmonious, with excellent ageing potential.
The vineyard is entirely planted with Sangiovese Grosso, the emblematic grape of Brunello di Montalcino. It produces structured wines, firm in their youth, but with remarkable capacity for evolution over time.
The Antinori philosophy is based on precision viticulture, strict grape selection, and modern yet terroir-respecting winemaking techniques. The goal is to craft wines that combine Tuscan identity, finesse, and long-term ageing potential.
Today, Pian delle Vigne is recognised as one of the leading estates in Montalcino, offering an elegant and refined interpretation of Brunello.
