YQUEM 2018 – Premier Grand Cru Classé Supérieur, Sauternes – Magnum 1.5 L
Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, Château d’Yquem embodies the absolute pinnacle of Bordeaux’s great sweet wines. The only estate to have been awarded the distinction of Premier Grand Cru Classé Supérieur in the 1855 Classification, Yquem is renowned worldwide for the exceptional quality and legendary longevity of its wines.
The 2018 vintage captivates with its remarkable aromatic intensity, combining exotic fruits, candied apricot, mango, citrus fruits, acacia honey, and delicate notes of sweet spices. On the palate, its richness and concentration are impressive, while a vibrant freshness brings balance, precision, and elegance.
The texture is broad, silky, and perfectly harmonious, leading to an exceptionally long finish marked by remarkable aromatic purity. This wine combines power, elegance, and complexity in a rare balance that is the hallmark of Yquem’s greatest vintages.
Presented in a 1.5-litre magnum, this outstanding Sauternes offers extraordinary ageing potential and will continue to evolve gracefully for many decades to come.
Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, Château d’Yquem is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious wine estates in the world. Its history spans several centuries, and its excellence was formally recognized in 1855 when it became the only château to be awarded the unique distinction of Premier Grand Cru Classé Supérieur, a rank unmatched in the Bordeaux wine classification.
The vineyard extends over more than 100 hectares of gravelly rises resting on clay-limestone subsoils. Benefiting from an exceptional microclimate created by the confluence of the Ciron and Garonne rivers, the estate enjoys ideal conditions for the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), an essential element in the production of the great sweet wines of Sauternes.
Planted primarily with Sémillon and complemented by Sauvignon Blanc, the vineyard is managed with extraordinary precision. Harvesting is carried out through successive selective pickings, sometimes over several weeks, ensuring that only grapes reaching the optimal level of concentration are selected.
Today owned by LVMH, Château d’Yquem remains the ultimate benchmark for great sweet wines. Its wines are celebrated for their richness, remarkable balance, aromatic complexity, and extraordinary ability to age for decades, even centuries, while retaining unparalleled freshness and elegance.
