CHÂTEAU SMITH HAUT LAFITTE BLANC 2025 – Pessac-Léognan: 98-99 /100 Pts
Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc ranks among the greatest dry white wines of Bordeaux and is an essential reference of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Sourced from an exceptional terroir of Günzian gravel soils, the estate is renowned for producing whites of remarkable precision, combining freshness, aromatic intensity, and elegance.
The 2025 vintage impresses with its purity and outstanding aromatic brilliance. The nose opens with intense notes of candied lemon, grapefruit, and fresh pear, complemented by floral nuances, delicate exotic fruits, and a subtle mineral and smoky touch.
On the palate, the attack is lively and precise. The wine is both broad and taut, supported by a superb acidity that structures the whole. The balance between aromatic richness, freshness, and precision gives the wine great harmony and beautiful tension.
The finish is long, saline, and persistent, marked by citrus notes and a fine minerality characteristic of great white wines from Pessac-Léognan.
Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc 2025 perfectly embodies the estate’s style: a refined, luminous, and deep white wine with excellent ageing potential.
The Estate – Château Smith Haut Lafitte
Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the most prestigious estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and a major reference for great Bordeaux wines, both red and white. Its history dates back to the 14th century, but it was under the leadership of the Cathiard family, owners since 1990, that the estate underwent a spectacular transformation, driven by a constant pursuit of excellence, innovation, and precision.
The vineyard extends over approximately 80 hectares, part of which is dedicated to white grape varieties. The Günzian gravel soils play an essential role, providing drainage, balanced water regulation, and a gradual release of heat, allowing optimal grape ripening and strong aromatic expression.
The white plantings are dominated by Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Sémillon and a touch of Sauvignon Gris. Each parcel is vinified separately to preserve the purity and precision of every aromatic component.
The estate is also widely recognized for its environmental commitment, with sustainable viticulture practices and a highly meticulous approach to vineyard management. The white wines are aged in oak barrels with great precision, adding texture, complexity, and depth while preserving freshness and tension.
Today, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is regarded as one of the great names of Pessac-Léognan, producing white wines of remarkable purity that combine intensity, elegance, and outstanding ageing potential.
