From one vintage to the next, the Drouhin family has devoted itself exclusively to maintaining the authenticity of its wines in the patchwork of vineyards that make up the great wine-growing region of Burgundy. This quest for excellence spans almost 90 appellations, producing mainly pinot noir and chardonnay, emblematic grape varieties that are perfect indicators of our terroirs.
With the passage of time, which we call experience, Maison Joseph Drouhin naturally opted for an organic, and even more biodynamic, approach in the late 80s.
Its credo, “natural answers to natural problems”, is shared by the whole family. This attentiveness to and respect for nature is reflected in the way the soil is worked, using horse-drawn ploughing, grass cover and natural compost. Biodynamic methods include treatments based on plant infusions and natural predators, following a very specific calendar.
The estate favors deep rooting and high planting density – up to 12,500 vines/ha – to bring out the best expression of the terroir, resulting in low yields. Hand-picking in small, pierced crates preserves the integrity of the fruit.
