Resulting from the division of Château Léoville in 1840, this beautiful 2nd Classified Growth of Saint-Julien has belonged to the Cuvelier family since 1920. It has been represented by Didier Cuvelier since 1979, who testifies to a great legitimate ambition for his cru: plots have been replanted to extend the exploited surface of the vineyard – from 48 hectares to 80 today – and the technical installations have been considerably modernized. On beautiful hilltops of Garonne gravel and sand, with favorable sunshine, the Léoville Poyferré vineyard is mainly composed of Cabernet-Sauvignon (65%) and Merlot (25%).
The oenologist Michel Rolland has been advising winemaking since 1994, imprinting his “nectar” style on the wines: seductive, ample, concentrated and unctuous, they present a radiant fruit and sweet notes of spices, with a superb ability to age.
