ORNELLAIA stretches between Bolgheri and the Mediterranean coast. Parts of the Ornellaia area were once covered by the Mediterranean Sea, which left behind sand, marl and marine fossils. The clay emerges at a slightly higher altitude, dotted with limestone pebbles of varying sizes. The discovery of the wine-growing potential of these hills was the starting point, but vision and determination were enough to give birth to Ornellaia.
