Located on the southern slopes of Saint-Émilion, close to the historic village center, Château Angélus is one of the most iconic estates on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A, it is renowned for producing wines of great intensity, combining depth, elegance and precision.
The 2021 vintage was a more challenging year in Bordeaux, marked by contrasting weather conditions. Low yields and meticulous vineyard work helped preserve excellent fruit quality and a very precise expression of terroir.
The blend is dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose reveals aromas of fresh black fruits, cherry, blackcurrant and plum, along with floral notes, fine spices, cocoa and a subtle touch of oak.
On the palate, Angélus 2021 stands out for its balance, elegant structure and fine, tightly woven tannins. The texture is more tense than opulent, with a fresh backbone that brings definition and length.
Already approachable in its youth, this vintage will benefit from time to fully evolve and offers good ageing potential, in a classic and precise Saint-Émilion style.
Located on the southern slopes of Saint-Émilion, close to the historic village, Château Angélus is one of the most iconic estates on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A, it has established itself as a key reference of the appellation thanks to wines that combine power, precision and elegance.
The estate’s history is closely linked to the de Boüard de Laforest family, who have managed it for several generations. Under their leadership, Angélus has undergone continuous development both in the vineyard and the cellar, while steadily refining a more precise and demanding style.
The vineyard covers approximately 30 hectares, ideally located on the limestone and clay-limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion. It is mainly planted with Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, allowing for great expressive richness and natural balance.
The estate’s varied soils, combined with favourable exposure, provide ideal conditions for wines that are both concentrated and refined. Vineyard work is meticulous, with close attention paid to each parcel in order to reveal the full typicity of the terroir.
The wines of Château Angélus are distinguished by their aromatic intensity, silky texture and depth. They combine power and finesse, with excellent ageing potential, while maintaining a distinctive identity that is instantly recognisable within the Saint-Émilion landscape.
