Château Pape Clément 2025 – Pessac-Léognan : 97-98
The Château Pape Clément 2025 is a red wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux. It is a Grand Cru Classé of Graves, widely regarded as one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the region.
The vineyard covers around 63 hectares, planted on deep gravel soils mixed with clay and limestone zones. This diversity of terroirs allows the production of wines that are powerful, complex, and supported by a fresh backbone.
The 2025 vintage benefits from favourable conditions, with even ripening and a rich aromatic expression. The blend is typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and sometimes a touch of Petit Verdot.
Ageing in French oak barrels, often with a significant proportion of new oak, adds structure, density, and aromatic complexity while preserving the expression of the fruit.
On the nose, aromas of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant, and plum are complemented by notes of cedar, sweet spices, and toast. On the palate, the attack is full and concentrated, with firm tannic structure, deep complexity, and a long, persistent finish.
This is a highly intense Pessac-Léognan, combining power, refinement, and excellent ageing potential.
Château Pape Clément – Estate
The Château Pape Clément is a historic wine estate located in Pessac, just outside the city of Bordeaux, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation on the left bank.
It is one of the oldest classified growths in Bordeaux, with origins dating back to the 13th century, when it was owned by Pope Clement V. Today, it is classified as a Grand Cru Classé of Graves and stands among the emblematic estates of the appellation.
The vineyard covers around 63 hectares, planted on deep gravel soils mixed with clay and limestone. This geological diversity ensures excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture to support balanced vine growth and ripening.
The red varieties are mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This blend produces wines that are structured, deep, and elegant.
Viticulture is carried out with great precision, focusing on parcel selection, yield control, and very strict harvesting decisions. Winemaking is modern and precise, with a strong emphasis on preserving terroir expression and fruit purity.
Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, often with a significant proportion of new oak, adding complexity, texture, and aromatic depth.
Today, Château Pape Clément is considered a benchmark estate of Pessac-Léognan, producing powerful, refined wines with strong ageing potential and consistent quality.
