ESPRIT DE SET 2022 – Grand Cru Saint-Émilion is a red wine from the appellation Saint-Émilion, on the right bank of Bordeaux, renowned for its elegant and structured wines dominated by Merlot.
The 2022 vintage stands out for its excellent fruit ripeness and high concentration. The colour is deep with purple reflections. The nose opens with aromas of ripe black fruits (black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant), along with delicate notes of vanilla, cocoa, and sweet spices from oak ageing.
On the palate, the attack is smooth and velvety, followed by a well-defined structure with fine yet present tannins. The overall balance combines richness, roundness, and freshness, leading to a long-lasting finish marked by fruit and subtle oak notes.
Blend style (typical of Saint-Émilion):
Mainly Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and sometimes Cabernet Sauvignon.
Food pairing:
Ideal with grilled ribeye steak, duck breast, or slow-cooked dishes such as beef stew.
Aging potential:
Typically 5 to 10 years, and up to 12–15 years for well-stored bottles, developing more complex aromas of truffle, forest floor, and sweet spices over time.
The Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is a prestigious appellation located on the right bank of Bordeaux, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of southwestern France. The vineyard stretches across a rolling landscape that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where vines have been cultivated since Roman times.
The terroir of Saint-Émilion is characterised by a great diversity of soils: limestone plateaus, clay-limestone hillsides, and sandy-clay foothills. This mosaic of terroirs allows for the production of wines with a wide range of styles, but always marked by elegance and structure.
Wines from the Grand Cru sector are mainly made from Merlot, often complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. This blend produces wines that are smooth, fruity, and generous in their youth, while also offering strong ageing potential.
The estates of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru are often family-run or historic properties, where vineyard work is carried out with great care: harvesting at optimal ripeness, precise vinification, and barrel ageing aimed at refining structure and enhancing aromatic complexity.
The overall style of the appellation combines rich fruit, roundness, and fine tannins, with aromas evolving over time towards more complex notes of truffle, undergrowth, and sweet spices.
