From the Hermitage appellation, La Chapelle 2014 by Paul Jaboulet Aîné is one of the benchmark wines of France’s Northern Rhône Valley. This vintage, more classic and precise than solar, highlights the purity of fruit and the natural elegance of great Syrah from the Hermitage hill.
The 2014 vintage is defined by refined balance and a beautiful freshness. The nose opens with aromas of black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by notes of violet, black pepper, liquorice, fine leather, and graphite. Barrel ageing adds nuances of cocoa, smoke, and noble oak, all seamlessly integrated.
On the palate, the structure is straight, deep, and harmonious. The tannins are fine yet present, providing definition without heaviness. The finish is long and elegant, marked by black fruits, spices, and a mineral signature typical of great Hermitage wines.
Paul Jaboulet Aîné is a historic wine estate founded in 1834, recognized as one of the great names of France’s Northern Rhône Valley. It is particularly renowned for its work on Hermitage terroirs, especially the iconic plot of La Chapelle.
The Hermitage vineyard is built on a mosaic of granite and clay-limestone soils, creating a wide range of expressions depending on the individual lieux-dits. Syrah finds an ideal environment here, producing wines that are structured, deep, and capable of long ageing.
The estate follows a highly parcel-driven approach, with precise vinification and long, carefully managed ageing, in order to preserve the identity of each terroir and the signature style of great Hermitage wines.
