The La Chapelle Hermitage 2015 – Paul Jaboulet Aîné in 3-liter format is one of the most iconic expressions of the northern Rhône Valley. From the prestigious Hermitage appellation, this legendary red wine is regarded as one of the greatest interpretations of the Syrah grape in the world.
The Paul Jaboulet Aîné estate, a historic winery founded in 1834, is a major reference in the Rhône Valley. It gained international recognition through its iconic cuvées, including La Chapelle, produced from parcels located on the Hermitage hill, notably the renowned “Le Méal” sector, along with other granite-based hillside plots.
The Hermitage terroir is composed of granite, mica-schist, and ancient alluvial deposits, with an ideal south to southeast exposure. These conditions allow for perfect Syrah ripening and produce wines that are powerful, structured, and highly complex aromatically.
The 2015 vintage is considered exceptional in the Rhône Valley. It stands out for its optimal grape ripeness and remarkable balance between richness and freshness.
The nose reveals intense aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and blueberry, complemented by notes of violet, black pepper, liquorice, cocoa, and smoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep, and structured, with powerful yet refined tannins supported by a vibrant tension.
The 3-liter format further enhances ageing potential, allowing for a slow and complex evolution over several decades.
This Hermitage La Chapelle 2015 is a true long-term ageing wine, destined to develop noble tertiary aromas of leather, truffle, undergrowth, and refined spices.
The Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné is one of the most iconic historic estates in the northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1834 in Tain-l’Hermitage, it has become over time a world reference for great Syrah wines, particularly from the Hermitage appellation.
The estate is best known for its legendary cuvée “La Chapelle”, produced from the finest terroirs of the Hermitage hill. These steep slopes are composed of very old soils made of granite, mica-schist, and alluvial pebbles, offering ideal conditions for expressing Syrah at its highest level.
The diversity of exposures on the hillside allows a balance of power, freshness, and aromatic complexity. The old vines, deeply rooted in the soil, contribute to the wines’ concentration and depth.
The estate’s philosophy is based on demanding viticulture, with precise parcel selection and careful attention to grape ripeness. Winemaking is conducted with great care to preserve the identity of the terroir, followed by oak ageing tailored to each cuvée.
Since its modern revival, the estate has regained a leading position among the great names of the Rhône Valley, particularly for its Hermitage wines, which are renowned for their structure, elegance, and exceptional ageing potential.
