PETIT MOUTON DE MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2025 – Pauillac: 97–99/100 Pts
Originating from the same prestigious terroirs as the renowned Château Mouton Rothschild, Petit Mouton is regarded as one of Bordeaux’s greatest second wines. Produced on the remarkable gravelly ridges of Pauillac, it benefits from the same expertise and uncompromising quality standards as the First Growth estate.
The 2025 vintage stands out for its balance between power and elegance. The nose reveals a deep aromatic intensity dominated by blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry, complemented by notes of cedar, sweet spices, and a subtle toasted nuance.
On the palate, the attack is broad and generous, supported by a precise structure and perfectly integrated ripe tannins. The mid-palate is rich yet controlled, driven by a vibrant freshness that brings tension and balance through to a long, persistent finish marked by fruity and spicy accents.
More approachable in its youth than its illustrious elder, Petit Mouton 2025 brilliantly expresses the nobility of the Pauillac terroir. A refined, harmonious, and highly seductive wine with excellent ageing potential.
The Estate – Château Mouton Rothschild
Located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most iconic and prestigious estates in the wine world. Its modern history is closely linked to the Rothschild family, who have shaped the château’s international reputation through a constant pursuit of excellence and innovation.
The vineyard extends over approximately 90 hectares of deep gravel ridges overlooking the Gironde estuary. These exceptionally well-draining soils promote optimal grape ripening and give the wines their power, complexity, and remarkable ageing potential.
The vineyard is predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Each parcel is vinified with great precision to preserve the unique expression of its terroir. Ageing takes place in barrels produced by the estate’s own cooperage, ensuring full control over quality.
In 1973, Château Mouton Rothschild became the only estate to be promoted from Second Growth to First Growth in the famous 1855 Classification, a unique distinction in Bordeaux history. Today, the château remains an absolute benchmark among the world’s greatest wines, renowned for its combination of power, elegance, depth, and exceptional longevity.
Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild, created in 1993, fully shares this philosophy of excellence and brilliantly reflects the noble and refined character of the great terroirs of Pauillac.
