The recently deceased oenologist Denis Dubourdieu produced his own wines on his family’s Clos Floridène estate, in addition to his activities as consultant to numerous Bordeaux châteaux and professor at the Bordeaux oenology faculty. It was with his wife Florence that he built up this cru from 1982 onwards through successive purchases of plots of land, naming it after the contraction of their two first names. Their son Jean-Jacques, supported by the estate’s technical team, continues production today with the same concern for excellence.
The 39-hectare vineyard is located on the best terroirs of Pujols-sur-Ciron, near Barsac: a thin layer of clayey sand on a limestone subsoil that gives the grapes, especially the Cabernet Sauvignon, a rare freshness that is reflected in the wines.
The white wines of Clos Floridène (24 hectares) are a blend of Semillon (50% of the white grape varieties) and Sauvignon. Expressive with notes of white peach and grapefruit, the wines are appreciated for their purity, uprightness and minerality.
