The Solaia 2016 from the Antinori family is one of the greatest contemporary Italian wines and an absolute benchmark among “Super Tuscans”. Produced at the Tenuta Tignanello estate, it embodies an ambitious vision of Tuscan winemaking, combining Bordeaux grape varieties with Italian identity in a highly precise and refined style.
The Solaia vineyard is located in the Chianti Classico area, on hillsides with ideal exposure and soils composed of limestone, clay and pebbles. This exceptional terroir allows for slow and even ripening of the grapes, promoting balance, concentration and elegance.
The 2016 vintage is considered outstanding in Tuscany. It is marked by perfect phenolic ripeness and a remarkable balance between power and finesse. The nose reveals intense aromas of cassis, black cherry and blackberry, complemented by floral notes, violet, tobacco, cocoa and sweet spices.
On the palate, the wine impresses with its majestic structure and outstanding precision. The tannins are fine and perfectly integrated, supporting a dense yet elegant texture. The overall profile is harmonious, deep, and driven by remarkable freshness that extends the finish with intensity and persistence.
This Solaia 2016 has exceptional ageing potential and can evolve gracefully over several decades. It pairs beautifully with noble red meats, game, roasted lamb, and refined gourmet dishes featuring truffle.
The Tenuta Tignanello, owned by the Antinori family, is one of Tuscany’s most iconic estates and a central landmark in the history of “Super Tuscans”. Located in the Chianti Classico area, between Florence and Siena, the estate is the birthplace of wines that have become global benchmarks, including Solaia and Tignanello.
The vineyard stretches across well-exposed hillsides at an ideal altitude for viticulture, benefiting from warm days and cooler nights. This thermal contrast promotes slow and complete grape ripening while preserving freshness and balance.
The soils are mainly composed of limestone pebbles, clay, and schist, offering a wide range of expressions depending on the parcels. This geological complexity allows the production of wines that are deep, structured, and highly elegant.
The estate is primarily planted with Sangiovese, complemented by Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which play a key role in the blends of Solaia and Tignanello.
Antinori’s philosophy is based on precision viticulture, strict grape selection, and modern winemaking techniques aimed at expressing the full potential of each parcel. The goal is to produce wines that combine Tuscan identity, structure, and refinement.
Today, Tenuta Tignanello is regarded as one of the birthplaces of modern Italian fine wine and remains an essential international reference.
