Château Ausone

Located on the southern slopes of the medieval town of Saint-Émilion, Château Ausone is one of the most prestigious and exclusive estates in Bordeaux. Its history dates back to Antiquity and is closely associated with the Latin poet Ausonius, whose name is intimately linked to the estate. Today, the property is classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Émilion.

With just around 7 hectares of vineyards, Ausone benefits from an exceptional hillside terroir with a south-eastern exposure. The plots are primarily composed of asteries limestone and limestone-rich clay soils, giving the wines remarkable freshness, great finesse and the distinctive mineral character for which the estate is renowned.

The vineyard is cultivated with the utmost care and is planted mainly with Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The estate’s limited size allows for particularly rigorous grape selection and a constant pursuit of precision. The wines are aged in the old underground quarries beneath the property, which naturally provide ideal conditions of temperature and humidity.

Under the direction of the Vauthier family, Château Ausone has established itself as an absolute reference in Saint-Émilion, seeking less overt power than depth, purity of fruit, fine tannins and exceptional ageing potential.

Ausone is therefore the expression of a rare terroir and exceptional craftsmanship: a great Saint-Émilion where limestone, precision and time come together to shape a truly unique identity.
