Originating from the Pessac-Léognan appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, La Clarté de Haut-Brion is the white second wine of the prestigious Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion estates. It benefits from the same exceptional expertise and rigorous attention to winemaking, while offering a more accessible expression of the great white wines of Graves.
The vineyard is rooted in the deep gravel soils typical of Pessac-Léognan, a terroir particularly well suited to producing white wines that are both precise and aromatic, with excellent ageing potential. The natural conditions of the region allow for slow ripening, promoting a balance between freshness and richness.
The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux was highly successful, marked by favourable weather conditions that encouraged excellent aromatic concentration and a pure expression of fruit.
The blend is mainly composed of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The nose reveals aromas of ripe citrus, lemon, grapefruit, and white fruits, alongside floral notes, light honey, hazelnut, and a subtle smoky nuance.
On the palate, La Clarté de Haut-Brion 2019 stands out for its balance between roundness and tension. The texture is silky, supported by fine freshness and an elegant, slightly saline and persistent finish.
Already expressive in its youth, this white Pessac-Léognan also has good ageing potential and perfectly reflects the finesse and precision of great white Bordeaux wines.
Located in Pessac, on the outskirts of Bordeaux, the Château Haut-Brion estate is one of the most prestigious wine estates in the world. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 (and the only estate outside the Médoc to be included in this classification), it is renowned for the consistency and depth of its wines, both red and white.
The estate is now managed by the Dillon family under the umbrella of Domaine Clarence Dillon, which also oversees several neighbouring properties, including La Mission Haut-Brion. This structure ensures stylistic consistency and an extremely high level of quality control at every stage of production.
The vineyard lies on a unique terroir of deep gravel mixed with sand and clay, characteristic of Pessac-Léognan. This diversity of soils contributes to the complexity and precision of the wines, providing structure, freshness, and aromatic finesse.
The white grape varieties are mainly Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, planted in small proportions. They are used to produce complex dry white wines that combine richness, tension, and excellent ageing potential.
Viticultural work is highly precise, with a strict parcel-by-parcel approach and deliberately low yields. Winemaking is carried out with great care to preserve fruit purity and the expression of terroir.
The white wines of the estate are distinguished by their remarkable balance, elegant texture, and capacity to evolve. They are considered among the absolute benchmarks for great dry white Bordeaux wines.
