Marquis de Calon Ségur 2020 – Saint-Estèphe

Produced in the Saint-Estèphe appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Marquis de Calon Ségur is the second wine of the prestigious Château Calon Ségur. It benefits from the same exceptional terroir and expertise, offering a more accessible expression of the estate’s style while retaining its deep identity.

The 2020 vintage was an outstanding year in Bordeaux, with favourable weather conditions allowing optimal grape ripening. The wine shows a fine balance between richness, freshness and structure.

The blend is mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The nose reveals aromas of black fruits such as blackcurrant and blackberry, alongside notes of cherry, violet, sweet spices and a subtle hint of oak.

On the palate, Marquis de Calon Ségur 2020 stands out for its elegant structure, fine tannins and pleasant roundness. The overall profile is harmonious, with generous texture and a fresh, persistent finish.

Already enjoyable in its youth, this second wine also offers good ageing potential and faithfully reflects the classic and refined style of Saint-Estèphe.

Château Calon Ségur – Saint-Estèphe

Located in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Calon Ségur is one of the oldest and most iconic estates in Bordeaux. Classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) in 1855, it is renowned for producing wines that combine power, structure and elegance.

The estate’s history dates back to the 12th century, and much of its reputation is linked to the Marquis de Ségur, who also owned several great Médoc estates. He is famously credited with the phrase: “I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon.”

The vineyard covers approximately 55 hectares, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vines are rooted in typical Saint-Estèphe soils, composed of deep gravel and clay-limestone layers, providing structure and ageing potential to the wines.

Over recent decades, the estate has undergone significant modernisation while preserving its strong historical identity. Vineyard practices focus on precision, respect for terroir and a meticulous parcel-by-parcel approach.

The wines of Château Calon Ségur are distinguished by their depth, firm tannic structure, freshness and excellent ageing potential. The estate’s style is instantly recognisable, combining power and elegance in a classic Médoc balance.
