Originating from the Toro appellation in Castile and León, in northwestern Spain, Pintia is the second grand wine of the prestigious Vega Sicilia estate, one of the country’s most iconic wine producers. It offers a modern and refined interpretation of the powerful, sun-drenched terroir of Toro.

The Vega Sicilia estate is internationally renowned for its long-lived wines and its extremely high standards in both vineyard and cellar. With Pintia, the estate delivers a more direct and accessible expression of this expertise, while retaining depth and structure.

The 2021 vintage benefited from relatively balanced weather conditions, allowing for even ripening and a fresh aromatic profile.

The wine is made primarily from Tinta de Toro (a local expression of Tempranillo), grown on sandy and gravelly soils. These terroirs bring concentration, intensity, and precision.

The nose reveals aromas of ripe black fruits, blackberry, plum, and black cherry, along with spicy notes, liquorice, cocoa, and a subtle toasty touch.

On the palate, Pintia 2021 stands out for its controlled power, dense structure, and firm yet polished tannins. The overall balance is maintained by a fresh backbone that supports the wine’s richness.

Already expressive in its youth, this wine also has good ageing potential and reflects the generous yet precise style of Toro as interpreted by Vega Sicilia.

Vega Sicilia – Ribera del Duero / Toro (Spain)

Located in northwestern Spain, Vega Sicilia is one of the most legendary wine estates in the world. Founded in the 19th century in the Ribera del Duero region, it has become an absolute benchmark thanks to wines of remarkable depth, precision, and exceptional ageing potential.

The estate spans a vast vineyard area mainly around the Duero Valley, where strong climatic contrasts between hot days and cool nights allow for slow and complete grape ripening. This continental climate contributes to the structure and longevity of the wines.

The signature grape variety is Tinto Fino (a local selection of Tempranillo), sometimes complemented in certain cuvées by small proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This diversity allows the production of complex, structured, and well-balanced wines.

Vega Sicilia’s philosophy is based on extreme rigor at every stage: very low yields, strict parcel selection, and long ageing in barrels followed by extended bottle ageing before release. This patience is one of the estate’s defining hallmarks.

Over time, Vega Sicilia has also developed other estates in Spain, including Pintia in the DO Toro, which expresses a sunnier and more direct interpretation of the house style, while maintaining the same level of quality discipline.

Vega Sicilia wines are renowned for their depth, elegance, structure, and extraordinary ageing capacity, making the estate a true global wine icon.
