To the south of the appellation, between the town of Pauillac and that of Saint-Julien, is this magnificent 73-hectare vineyard. Adjoining the great Château Latour, the 2nd Cru Classé Pichon Baron benefits from a 1er Cru terroir, with its deep gravel dating from the Quaternary era. Cabernet-Sauvignon occupies 62% of the grape variety, associated with Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc (4%) and Petit Verdot (2%).
Owned by AXA Millésimes since 1987, the cru is run by Christian Seely, assisted by Jean-René Matignon. A few years ago, a major program of renovation and expansion of the cellars was undertaken.
Under the leadership of oenologist Eric Boissenot, the wine of Pichon Baron asserts itself in all its intensity, with a singular race, precision and velvety texture. It differs from its neighbor Pichon Longueville.
