Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is the second wine of Château Léoville Las Cases, produced since the 2007 vintage. It offers a real alternative for those who want to enjoy the exceptional consistency and formidable aromatic complexity of the Grand Cru Classé at a lower cost. With just one difference: Merlot dominates the blend, unlike the prestigious big brother, which is built primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon.
Born in the middle of the 17th century, the 2nd Cru Classé Léoville Las Cases is well known to wine-lovers for its incredible consistency of quality and formidable aromatic complexity. The latter is due to the mosaic of varied terroirs from which the grand vin is made: these 53 precious hectares known as “le Clos” to the north of Saint-Julien, adjacent to Château Latour, are in fact dedicated to the production of the Cru Classé. Jean-Hubert Delon has been the sole owner of the vineyard since 2011. He has entrusted its management to Pierre Graffeuille.
Made from a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon (64%), the wine of Léoville Las Cases always boasts a very dark, inky color, characteristic of the cru. Class, depth, density, noble tannins and sumptuous fruit are its great qualities, not to mention almost limitless ageing potential.
