CHÂTEAU AUSONE 2025 – Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé A: 100/100 Pts
Château Ausone ranks among the greatest names in Bordeaux and is one of the very few estates classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A in Saint-Émilion. Situated on the historic limestone slopes of the town, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir that gives its wines remarkable depth, finesse, and longevity.
The vineyard, extremely small in size, is planted on pure limestone soils mixed with clay-limestone layers, providing ideal natural drainage and slow, even ripening of the grapes. This unique terroir is one of the cornerstones of the Ausone style, known for its precision and mineral tension.
The 2025 vintage stands out for its exceptional refinement and remarkable aromatic complexity. The nose reveals aromas of fresh black fruits, cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, alongside floral notes, violet, flint, graphite, and delicate spices.
On the palate, the attack is highly precise. The wine is deep yet airy, supported by remarkably fine tannins and a constant mineral tension. The balance between restrained power, elegance, and freshness creates a rare sense of harmony.
The finish is very long, complex, and vibrant, marked by notes of dark fruits, limestone minerality, and an elegant spicy touch.
Ausone 2025 perfectly embodies the style of the estate: an exceptional wine, refined, profound, and pure, destined for extremely long ageing and a truly majestic evolution in the cellar.
The Estate – Château Ausone
Château Ausone is one of the most legendary estates in Bordeaux and one of only two historic Premier Grand Cru Classé A estates in Saint-Émilion. Located on the steep limestone slopes of the medieval town, it occupies an exceptional site where vines have been cultivated since Gallo-Roman times.
The vineyard is extremely small, covering only a few hectares. It is rooted in a unique terroir of pure limestone and clay-limestone layers, offering ideal conditions for producing wines of outstanding precision, tension, and longevity.
The vineyard is dominated by Cabernet Franc, complemented by Merlot. This combination, together with the strong limestone identity of the terroir, produces wines of remarkable freshness, aromatic intensity, and a very refined, linear structure.
Viticulture is carried out with exceptional rigor, with very low yields and meticulous parcel-by-parcel work to preserve the purest expression of the terroir. Vinification and ageing are conducted with great precision, in keeping with the classic and timeless style of the estate.
Today, Château Ausone is regarded as one of the greatest wines in the world, sought after for its rarity, finesse, and extraordinary ageing potential.
