Château Cos d’Estournel 2025 – Saint-Estèphe : 98-100
The Château Cos d’Estournel 2025 is a red wine from the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the left bank of the Médoc. It is a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, regarded as one of the most iconic and distinctive estates in Bordeaux.
The vineyard spans deep gravel hilltops over clay-limestone subsoils, located close to Pauillac. This exceptional terroir promotes slow and complete ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon while preserving freshness and balance.
The 2025 vintage benefits from favourable climatic conditions that allowed for excellent fruit concentration and even ripening. The blend is typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, with small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot depending on the parcels.
The estate is known for its powerful yet refined style, combining depth, aromatic richness, and remarkable precision. Winemaking is carried out with extreme care, while ageing in French oak barrels adds structure, complexity, and finesse.
On the nose, the wine reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, and black cherry, along with notes of cedar, sweet spices, graphite, and sometimes the signature exotic hints typical of the estate. On the palate, the attack is full and dense, with silky tannins, great depth, and a long, elegant, and persistent finish.
Château Cos d’Estournel – Estate
The Château Cos d’Estournel is a wine estate located in Saint-Estèphe, in the northern Médoc on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 classification, it is among the most prestigious and recognisable properties in the Bordeaux region.
The estate was founded in the early 19th century by Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel, nicknamed the “Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe” due to his fascination with the Orient. This influence is still visible today in the château’s iconic architecture, including its pagodas and intricately carved gates.
The vineyard covers around 100 hectares, planted on deep gravel hilltops over clay-limestone subsoils. This exceptional terroir, located very close to Pauillac, promotes slow and even ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon while preserving freshness and structure.
The vineyard is mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This combination allows for the production of powerful, deep, and highly complex wines.
The estate is known for its demanding viticulture and highly precise winemaking, with extensive parcel selection and modern cellar facilities adapted to each batch of grapes. Ageing in French oak barrels adds complexity and finesse while respecting the identity of the terroir.
Today, Château Cos d’Estournel is regarded as one of the leading references in the Médoc, producing wines that are both opulent and refined, with outstanding ageing potential.
